Schedule for Week of September 26, 2016

This week, we focus on liberating the shoulders in most classes.

Sunday, the Yoga Basics series is back at Community Yoga! We’ll be breaking down the poses that make up sun salutations. This series is great for new students and experienced practitioners. Everyone is welcome!

I love the transition from summer into autumn. There is beauty and love as flowers’ blooms begin to fade and they give up their seeds for the survival of the next generation or to birds preparing for winter. Leaves on the trees surrender their glorious green for rich jewel tones, cooling shade giving over to the warmth of dappled sunlight. Rather than seeing death and decay, I see a lot of life in those transitional moments.

What happens in nature this time of year correlates to our yoga practice. We revel in the joy of our physical practice, the energy and insights that we get from moving our bodies and finding the balance between ease and effort in poses before coming to the stillness and renewal of savasana. Those movements between poses, those times of transition, have as much to tell us as the poses themselves.

This week we’ll focus on the transitions between poses and the liberation that comes from working with our bodies rather than against them. If you want to explore balance poses in more depth, you can join me for my Yoga for Better Balance workshop at Yoga Balance (Morton Center) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 24th.

Hope to see you this week!

I’m very excited to bring my favorite form of yoga – Yin – to two more venues this week.

This Thursday, the 7:15 p.m. class at Yoga Balance is changing formats to Yin. This is the beginning of a four-week session running from September 8 through September 29; you can sign up for all four classes for $48 or you are welcome to drop in for $15 per class. You can call 765-775-5120 to register.

And I’m super excited to return to what feels like my Indy yoga home, Dragonfly 360 (formerly All People Yoga Center, where I did my teacher training), for a weekly Yin class on Sundays at 2 p.m. Drop-ins are $17 and there are other pricing options available. Come see me if you’re in Indy!

#FunFriday: Crown Chakra

This is another week of rather mellow songs. but that seems rather fitting. The crown chakra is all about recognizing a higher power, recognizing that we are all connected, and enjoying the beauty of peace and acceptance. So here we go, no further explanations this week (hope you like Keb’ Mo’).

Much love,

Debra

#ThoughtfulThursday: Crown Chakra

photogrid_1472787476906.jpg

We’re wrapping up our look at the chakras with inquiry into the crown chakra, the seat of true beauty, spirituality, and our connection to the Divine.

When the sahasrara is out of balance, we fail to see that true happiness comes from within. We think it either comes from outside sources. We think any success we have is the result of situations that we totally control. We are narcissistic, egotistical, and ungrateful.

When in balance, we know there is more to us than our physical bodies and the labels with which we identify. We understand the true Self is connected to the spiritual realm. We also recognize that not everything is within our control. We trust and accept that our lives are moving along the paths intended for us. This acceptance opens us to enlightenment, peace, and joy.

Self Reflection

Finding balance in this chakra requires us to exam who we are in the deepest sense and be open to our connection to others and the rest of the world. Ask yourself:

  • Do I feel in control of my destiny?
  • Am I able to release my problems? My troubling thoughts?
  • How do I connect with the higher level of consciousness?
  • Who am I really?

Affirmations

The following affirmations will help reinforce your trust in your inner wisdom.

  • I understand.
  • I release all limiting thoughts.
  • I accept and hone the spirit within me and all living things.
  • I am complete.
  • I am truth, beauty, and love.
  • I live in the awareness that we are all one people, one planet.
  • There is no separation between my love and the love in the universe; we are one.

Yours in truth and wisdom,

Debra
